The Fleet

At first we took the most recognized definite 4x4 vehicle capable of traversing extremes of terrain - the new Land Rover Defender 110, featuring the new and efficient four cylinder 2,4 liter EURO 4 Diesel engine, and the newly designed 6 gear transmission. As we added to the collection we also have Land Rover Defender 130. These icons were then further modified to “an ISAK” with big 38” tyres for increased flotation, ideal for driving on snow and glaciers as well as matching with every tough highland trail Iceland has to offer. Also the gear ratio of the axle differentials has been converted for compensation of the bigger tyres, resulting in moderate fuel consumption despite these changes, or 12 - 15 litres/100kms in general.

Furthermore all vehicles are equipped with an engine mounted air compressor to adjust the tire pressure for different terrains, with VHF long-range radio intercommunication with private channels, GPS navigation and mapping devices to increase safety and comfort of travelling, and snorkel to reduce the likelihood of water reaching the combustion chambers of the engine. Each vehicle is also equipped with a special front bumper for ice with latches for Hi Lifts and with spot lights.  Common gear for possible problems, like a rope, a shovel, plugs for repairing punctures and normal tools are provided in each car.

On a request customers can rent extra fuel cans on a special mounting.  We also offer a roof rack for luggage or high-tent.

We currently feature 16 modified Land Rover Defenders, 12 which are Land Rover Defender 110 and 2 that are Land Rover Defender 130. Each vehicle has a private number plate, ISAK 1 to ISAK 15 (we decided to leave the nr. 13 out and use it instead for our car hauler), to make it easier to direct the communication between the individual vehicles on convoy tours.

                                                           BECOMING AN ISAK

Each of our vehicles has been carefully modified by our quality partner company SSGíslason, THE specialists on Land Rover in Iceland, and electric components have been mounted by the electricians at Taeknivelar. All vehicles are easy to drive and react real smoothly whatever the condition. The ISAKs have proven themselves here in Iceland so much that even the Icelandic Rescue Team is using some of our vehicles for rescue trainings.
